How to Market Your Garage on Social Media

Social media is not optional for garages anymore — it is where your customers are. Over 57 million people in the UK use social media, and when someone needs a garage, they increasingly check Facebook, Instagram, and Google before picking up the phone. The garages that show up, engage, and build trust online win the work.

The great news is that you do not need a marketing degree or a big budget. Authenticity and consistency beat polish every time.

Which Platforms Matter for Garages

You do not need to be everywhere. Focus on the platforms where your customers actually are:

  • Facebook — Still the most important platform for local businesses. Your customers are here, and Facebook's local business features (check-ins, reviews, recommendations) are powerful. Priority number one.
  • Instagram — Visual platform perfect for before-and-after photos, workshop content, and behind-the-scenes stories. Growing in importance for younger customers.
  • Google Business Profile — Technically not social media, but your Google listing is arguably more important than any social platform. Keep it updated with posts, photos, and responses to reviews.
  • TikTok — If you enjoy creating short video content, TikTok can reach a massive audience. Satisfying repair videos, diagnostic discoveries, and workshop tours perform incredibly well.

Start with Facebook and Google. Add Instagram when you are comfortable. Consider TikTok only if you genuinely enjoy creating video content.

Content Ideas That Work

The biggest barrier to social media is knowing what to post. Here are content ideas proven to engage garage audiences:

  • Before and after photos — A corroded brake disc next to a new one. A filthy cabin filter next to a fresh one. These are simple, visual, and effective.
  • Workshop behind-the-scenes — Show your team at work, your clean workshop, your equipment. It builds trust and humanises your business.
  • Customer car features — With permission, photograph interesting vehicles. Classic cars, modified cars, and unusual vehicles all generate engagement.
  • Seasonal tips — "Three things to check before your summer road trip." Useful content positions you as an expert.
  • Team introductions — Introduce your technicians. Show their qualifications, experience, and personality. People trust people, not businesses.
  • Reviews and testimonials — Share positive Google reviews as image posts. Social proof is incredibly powerful.
  • Special offers — Seasonal promotions, loyalty discounts, referral schemes. But do not make every post a sales pitch — aim for 80% value, 20% promotion.

Posting Frequency and Timing

Consistency matters more than frequency. It is better to post three times a week reliably than to post ten times one week and disappear for a month.

  • Facebook — 3-5 posts per week. Best times: 8-9am (morning commute), 12-1pm (lunch break), 7-8pm (evening browse).
  • Instagram — 3-4 posts per week plus daily Stories. Best times: 11am-1pm and 7-9pm.
  • Google Business Profile — 1-2 posts per week. Google Posts expire after 7 days, so regular posting keeps your listing fresh.

Batch your content. Spend 30 minutes on Monday taking photos and writing captions for the week. Schedule posts using Facebook's built-in scheduler or free tools like Meta Business Suite.

Handling Negative Comments and Reviews

Negative feedback is inevitable and how you handle it matters more than the feedback itself:

  • Respond quickly — Aim to reply within 2-4 hours. A fast response shows you care.
  • Be professional — Never argue, be sarcastic, or get personal. Other potential customers are watching.
  • Take it offline — "We are sorry to hear about your experience. Please call us on [number] so we can put this right." Resolve privately, then ask the customer to update their review.
  • Learn from it — If multiple customers mention the same issue, fix the underlying problem.

Measuring Results

Track these simple metrics monthly:

  • Follower growth — Are more local people finding you?
  • Engagement rate — Are people liking, commenting, and sharing your posts?
  • Website clicks — Are social media visitors clicking through to your website or booking page?
  • New customer source — Ask every new customer how they found you. Track social media as a source.

Social media success is a marathon, not a sprint. Consistent, authentic content over six to twelve months builds a following that translates into real bookings. With ashdub, you can share digital inspection results, seasonal offers, and booking links directly from the platform to your social channels.
